Chalice
The design of this chalice exemplifies the final stage of Van der Laan’s stylistic development in which his theory of numerical relationships was perfected. The ratios between height and diameter and between the chalice and the handles are now ideal according to the theory. With the modern design and the lesser precious metal brass (rather than silver), he wanted to minimize the distance between the church and people.
