In the course of the 1930s Rietveld designed several variants of the Zigzag Chair. Next to the original dining chair there were models with armrests, with holes in the back, with a lower seat, or combinations thereof. Sometimes they were produced in luxurious types of wood. Rietveld often first tried out the different designs himself. He subsequently gave this one to his daughter Bep Eskes-Rietveld.
