Geyser and Faucet above a Counter
In the 20th century the subject of a kitchen counter for a painting can often be linked to socialist convictions on the part of the artist. Before the Second World War, this would seem to have been a conscious choice made primarily by female artists. Perhaps because they worked in the home, they could better appreciate – no irony intended – the beauty of the order and cleanliness in this subject.
