Karuppannasamy

Alongside Shiva and Vishnu who are venerated throughout India, the country is also home to scores of local deities linked to a special region or a clan. Karuppannasamy is worshipped in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, principally in rural areas. He is a dangerous god who has to be pacified with sacrifices of blood and meat, in exchange for which he protects the fields. The scythe in his right hand is a reference to this.
