Habiti antichi, et moderni di tutto il mondo (Of Ancient and Modern Dress of the Entire World)
In all early costume manuals the illustrations are paramount, while the text is summary. This changed in 1590 when Vecellio went a step further and included copious and detailed information about local customs and dress. He was also the first to treat the history of costume. Portrayed here is a woman from Flanders. She wears a huik, a wide sleeveless mantle covering the head.
