Pair of shoes with ribbon laces
At first sight, these appear to be standard shoes from the first quarter of the 19th century. What is unusual,
however, is the printed label on the insole. It bears the name of the cobbler and his address (15 Plaats in
The Hague). Until then, craftsmen had generally remained anonymous. Also indicated in each shoe is
for which foot it was intended.
