Made in USA
With this predatory, virily-aggressive machine, the American–Japanese artist Tajiri gave expression to the kind of violence ‘made in USA’. He lived in the Netherlands, but made the sculpture when he was a guest lecturer in America in 1964. In that year, American participation in the Vietnam War intensified, as is reflected in this unreal figure, which conveys the aggressive language of the machine gun.
