Flight of Angels, Two Holding a Large Feather
This is a design for a wall painting in a spandrel – the space at the side of an arch – in a church or chapel in Rome. Whether the design was ever executed is uncertain. The bodies of the naked cherubs are carefully outlined. The figures have a sense of plasticity – they seem almost sculpted – which was achieved using a combination of brown wash and white highlights.
