Brooch (Rope skipping)
Goldsmith Chris Steenbergen explored the boundaries of his medium in this brooch. Echoing trends in large sculptural works of his time, he, too, tried to convey motion. He suggested this effect by ‘dissolving’ the girl into pieces of silver hammered into convex and concave shapes. The inside is gilded and the rope is made of gold wire. Steenbergen thus introduced colour into the brooch and emphasized its three-dimensionality.
