A Brooklyn Gang in a Bar
Bruce Davidson followed the ‘Jokers’, a teen gang in Brooklyn, day and night for an entire month. He photographed them hanging out on the street or at the beach on Coney Island, or while they showed each other their battle wounds in a bar. Davidson, in his mid-twenties,
recorded their largely invisible world from the inside. This yielded a gritty, yet intimate document of the rise of teen culture in the late 1950s.
