Portrait of Abraham Gorlaeus, Aged 52
The Antwerp collector Abraham Gorlaeus published a catalogue of his collection of ancient coins and cameos (carved stones) in 1601. On the table are numerous rings and cameos from his collection. We also see how Gorlaeus stored his precious objects: on the table are two cases in the shape of a book in which various drawers with compartments can be pulled out.
