Wabash Street
This photograph of a woman underneath Chicago’s elevated railway is dominated by large black areas subtly interrupted by a pattern of flecks of light. Callahan used this location as a setting to catch passers-by at just the right moment: partly in light, and partly in shadow. The photographer was clearly primarily interested in the interplay of light and dark.
