Portrait of Lieven Willemsz van Coppenol, known as ‘The Large Coppenol’
Dissatisfied with Rembrandt’s first likeness of him, the pathologically vain Coppenol commissioned a second one – the largest portrait print Rembrandt ever produced. A generous margin was left at the bottom where Coppenol could copy the poems praising his penmanship that he had solicited from leading literary figures.
