View of a Snow-Covered Roof
André Kertész rarely followed the ‘great events’ dominating the front pages of the newspapers, instead he was sensitive primarily to the poetry of everyday life. He sought out his modest subjects close to home, such as a view of a snow-covered roof or light falling through a net curtain onto the windowsill. He made these still lifes with an eye for light and shadow, focus and blur, as well as depth in the flat surface.
