Portrait of Henry William Paget, 1st Marquis of Anglesey
Henry William Paget was an English hero at the Battle of Waterloo, June 1815. One of the last cannon shots fired on the battlefield hit him in his right leg, which had to be amputated. During the surgery – without anaesthetic – the patient did not move a single muscle. King George III created the title of marquis of Anglesey for Paget in reward for his heroism.
