Landscape with a View of a City
Of the many engravers who reproduced Rubens’ paintings, Schelte à Bolswert from Bolsward was one of the most accomplished. Especially his engravings after Rubens’ painted landscapes are much more than dutiful reproductions. With his virtuoso engraving technique he succeeded in capturing the painterly aspect of the original work.
