Joseph Selling Grain in Egypt
In this scene from the Bible, Joseph, Egypt’s vizier, sells grain to the crowd flocking around him. The people are from surrounding famine-stricken countries. His brothers have come to Egypt as well, but do not recognize their younger brother. De Bisschop made his etching after a print by the painter Bartholomeus Breenbergh, who had lived in Italy for many years.
Breenbergh may have given De Bisschop drawing lessons.
