Housecoat
In the 17th and 18th centuries the Dutch used various names to designate this garment, a long, loose coat generally worn indoors. Housecoat, dressing gown, morning gown, or ‘Japanese robe’ – the same names were adopted for Indian variations. This robe is decorated with a Japanese-styled design of prunus blossom and pine branches. It is unclear whether this garment, with its Japanese-style cut, was made in
India or Europe.
