Vase
The turquoise colour of this vase is based on Chinese celadon porcelain. The painting of the Chinese horseman in the field is known as ‘contour chinoiserie,’ because the face and hands are executed in red and black contours (outlines), without any shadows. The vase is one of a pair; its companion is in the Porzellansammlung in Dresden.
