Shinto Priest
Betsy Westendorp-Osieck was one of the ‘Amsterdamse Joffers’, a group of women painters in Amsterdam. During her travels through Asia she made sketches of the people and buildings she saw along the way. This watercolour is of a Shinto priest from Nikko, whom she describes in her diary. She added a souvenir stamp on the sheet of one of the buildings in Nikko, the Honchido.
