View of the Church at Noordse Dorp near Noorden
This modest 19th-century church at Noordse Dorp seems about to be swallowed up by the overabundant water of the lakes and the huge looming clouds. Weissenbruch’s watercolours often lay around in his studio for years before the artist decided to take another look and finish them. This landscape, with its rough, aged surface, seems also to have been the result of several revisions.
