Self-Portrait
Even though street photographers found themselves in the midst of frenetic city life, they were often only voyeurs looking in from the outside. However, in Friedlander’s series Self Portraits the photographer himself is part of the street scene. In many instances his presence is suggested only by his reflection in a car mirror or a shop front. In this case he casts a shadow on the back of the woman’s fur coat.
