Pair of vases (vases à perles or vases à panneaux)
The classicizing shape of the vases was probably designed by the renowned sculptor Falconet, whose statue of Cupid is on view in this gallery. The vases owe their name to the simulated ‘pearls’ and raised panels with painted scenes. They may have formed a set with the vase ballon also displayed here, even though the green colour of the ground differs considerably.
