Bottle

The technique used here derives from inlaid metalwork. The potter first carves the motifs on the surface of the unfired stoneware and fills the resulting grooves with white and brown slip. The excess slip is carefully removed before the vessel is coated with a transparent green glaze, allowing the design underneath to be visible.
