Indonesia is home to a wide variety of water containers, such as the bowl on a tripod stand, used to pour water onto holy figures. With the elephant vessel the water is poured from the animal’s trunk. The vessel with a serpent spout and high neck may only have had a symbolic function, as a representation of amrita, the elixir of life.
