Vajrasattva, ‘the thunderbolt being’, is one of the highestranking Buddhist deities. Here he is seated on a lotus throne, clad in royal attire. In his right hand he generally holds a thunderbolt (vajra), in his left a bell, symbolizing the male and female aspects of the universe. These attributes are here only implied by the position of his hands.
