Pinnacle of a tabernacle
This relief once crowned a tabernacle, a wall cupboard near the altar in which the host was stored. The Virgin and Child are flanked left and right by the holy abbots Benedict of Nursia and Bernard of Clairvaux, the founders of the Benedictine and the Cistercian orders. This relief was probably made for a monastery of one of these orders.
