Italy was long the centre of rock crystal production. The demand for costly vessels led to the establishment of workshops to produce such objects outside of Italy as well. Paris craftsmen were less skilled at cutting than their Milan colleagues, which resulted in vessels with thicker bodies and larger motifs.
