Loevestein Castle

Roghman most likely took these two views of Loevestein Castle as his model when making his castle drawings. Just like Visscher, Roghman also varied and alternated his compositions. Hugo de Groot and Rombout Hogerbeets were imprisoned in Loevestein in 1619 for their political views. Engraved portraits of them flank the two views of the castle. At the left we see the prisoners arriving accompanied by soldiers.
