Tazza, with the Imprisonment of Willem Courten

A man looks out from behind bars. It is Willem Courten from the Flemish town of Menen. As a follower of Calvin he is taken prisoner on 2 March 1567. However, with his wife’s help he escapes and flees to London. He considers this a victory over the Duke of Alva, so the inscription tells us. He gives this tazza, a memorial in silver, to his children.
