Triumph of the Roman Catholic Church (ceremonial tankard)
Large, silver mounted, ivory ceremonial tankards, or Humpen, were particularly prized in southern Germany. The continuous relief around this tankard is an allegory of the Catholic Church. The woman with the chalice seated on the triumphal chariot symbolizes the Church. Wrath, Discord and Envy are being crushed beneath her wheels.
