Parure
This parure is a fine example of just how refined the interplay between stones and their settings could be around 1800. The large amethysts are cut in such a way to bring out their brilliance and rich deep colour. The play of light in the gold, on the other hand, is diffused. This is the result of a special technique called granulation, in which tiny grains of gold are soldered onto a gold base.
