This life sized bust was created for dr. H.P.N. ('Hendrik') Muller's 80th birthday. It was sculpted in 1938 by Gra Rueb. The bust an identical copy of the bust of Muller sculpted by Rueb in 1936 and unveiled at the University of the Free State on 17 February 1938. This was in recognition of Muller’s service as Consul and later Consul General to the Orange Free State from 1896 to the end of the South African War in 1902 and his life long support of the Afrikaner cause.<BR> <BR> The second copy was unveiled at Museum Volkenkunde on 18 July 1939 in recognition of Muller’s donation of his Southern African ethnographic collection (RV-2211) to the museum in 1930. The bust itself was taken up into the Museum's collection in 1999.
