Huipil
De Amuzgo vrouwen staan bekend om het weven van hun “huipiles”. Dit kledingstuk bestaat gewoonlijk uit drie samengevoegde delen en is gewoonlijk erg lang, reikt tot halverwege de kuiten, waardoor zelden een rok eronder gedragen wordt. Alleen bij speciale gelegenheden wordt soms een handgeweven wikkelrok gedragen. Doordat meestal geen rok gedragen wordt zijn de “huipiles” wat zwaarder dan zoals die gewoonlijk gedragen worden.<BR> <BR> <BR> Huipil<BR> <BR> Handspun white cotton<BR> <BR> Acquired 1958<BR> <BR> Dimensions: L: 93 cm<BR> W: 36 + 37 + 37 cm<BR> <BR> Description: White cotton ground with red warp stripes along side selvages creating wide vertical stripes at seams. Brocaded cross bands in red with bird, star, stylized floral and geometrical designs. Central panel more elaborately decorated, especially below neck opening, which exhibits widest cross band with conventional zigzag pattern in red, green, orange and purple.<BR> Neck opening has finish of purple cloth cut out in zigzag form and stitched with red. Red floral design in cross stitch around neck opening.<BR> <BR> Huipil worn without skirt.<BR> <BR> Provenience: Zacualpan, Gro.<BR> Costa Chica (near Ometepec)<BR>
