A line conductor has three holes. The harpoon line runs through the large hole. The other two holes serve to tighten the line neatly along the harpoon shaft. On the harpoon shaft there is a pawl on which the line conductor is clamped. The harpoon line can shrink or expand. Because a line conductor has multiple holes, the line is always tense. These line conductors were commonly used up to about 1980. Then the use of the kayak and the harpoon as a hunting tool fast decreased. Nowadays most Inuit hunt with motor boats and guns. This object is collected by Gerti Nooter, anthropologist and former curator of National Museum of Ethnology. During his stay in East Greenland he saw the society change.
