Because kayaks were no longer being used in extreme weather conditions, from the beginning of the 1970s the scraper was no longer to be found as part of the equipment on a kayak. Among the twenty-three kayaks being used in the settlement of Tiniteqilaaq in 1973, only five carried an ice scraper. Since the kayak is almost never used these days, the ice scraper has also become redundant.
