Stand of a mandala

A mandal can be made from sevra; materials. Many mandala's are two-dimensional, such as mandala's on paper or cloth and sand paintings. This three-dimensional mandala is placed on or near the altar. It consists of a pedestal, four rings and a headpiece. An offering of rice is heaped into each of the four rings. Many kinds of Buddhist symbol are engraved on these rings. On the lowest ring are landscape motifs: the four mythical continents of the world, mountains, oceans and animals. The second ring has symbols of prosperity and wealth, the third symbols of auspiciousness. On the fourth ring are a banner and parasol, both signs of authority, together with a sun-and-moon symbolizing eternity. On the leaf-shaped top of the mandala there is a wheel signifying the Buddha's teaching and pointing to the Buddha as the centre of the universe
