Jar for water of life

During ceremonies the water is sprinkled onto the hands of those present during worship. The hanging decorations represent the water flowing from the vase. The lotus-shaped base symbolizes purity and enlightenment. The motifs are chased in the silver - wrought into it from the rear - and engraved and gilded here and there. On the base we see the eight Buddhist auspicious symbols: parasol, banner, conch shell, endless knot, wheel of the doctrine, vase of plenty, gold fish and lotus flower. The leaf-shaped upper part is decorated with floral motifs and set with three semi-precious stones. The upper part is crowned by two symbols: a mystical pictograph in the centre and the sun and moon motif at the top, symbolizing eternal life. Peacock feathers can be inserted into a small ring at the back. They symbolize the sun and life.
