Een paar kinderlaarzen

A pair of boots ("ki") made from the skin of the Bearded Seal, with cotton legs. This kind of skin is stronger and thicker than that of the common seal, and is thus particularly suitable for shoe or boot soles. The form of the boot betrays Manchurian influence. The child's shoes shown here are similar in form to those worn by adults. Women usually wore shoes incorporating cotton. Men wore sealskin boots, at any rate in winter. Boys and girls wore the same kind of footwear. Nowadays fur boots of 'modern' manufacture, with felt linings and rubber soles, together with Russian and European shoes, have largely replaced traditionally made boots.
