Ear muffs

A pair of ear muffs, worn by men in winter. Made from animal skin, lined with cotton. Ear muffs were made of cotton outside, decorated with arabesques. The insides were made from the fur of the fox, sea otter, or a young animal. One of the many different kinds of fur caps was worn over the muffs. Generally speaking, both Nivkh and Oroch people did not wear fur coats with attached hoods. This meant that separate fur caps were necessary for keeping the head warm in winter, and ear muffs were also used.
