Man's skirt

Little skirt ('kaska') made from seal fur (Phoca Larga). It is composed of several pieces of fur sewn together with sinew thread. A double layer of jute is fixed to the upper edge. A string can be drawn through this, so that the skirt can be buttoned. Men wore this garment in winter while hunting, and on sledge journeys. It provided protection against snow and wet. It ceased to be worn in the first half of the twentieth century. However, recently it was seen being worn during the revived bear feasts. It may be worn more frequently at regional competitions and on other festive occasions.
