Kajaktafel

A kayak table of this type had three legs. This kayak table has one leg missing. The central leg is made of wood, while the other parts are made of bone. The hook serves to fasten the table under one of the cross-belts on the deck of the kayak. The hunter can lay down the top end of the harpoon or spear by using the plugs fixed into the legs of the kayak table, or - as in this case - by using a hook fixed underneath the side foot. This prevents his weapon from freezing to the deck of the kayak. Since the 1980s the Inuit have been making increasing use of motorboats instead of kayaks. The kayak table is falling increasingly into disuse, along with the kayak.
