362-68<BR> Quechan hair ornament; wood, feathers, wool, cotton; l. 6 cm.; ca. 1880.<BR> The ornament consists of a short pointed wooden stick as hairpin, with eighteen sticks attached, individually wrapped in red wool, ending in attached black, brown and white feathers, and two long red cotton ribbons. Most of the feathers and cloth have deteriorated and were lost, but originally it must have been a stunning hair ornament. Trippel (1984:176) noted that in the late 1880s Yuma men were rather fond of hair ornaments fashioned from waterfowl feathers. <BR> (Hovens 2008-09)<BR> <BR> <BR> Hoofdtooi in de vorm van een houten naald waaraan achttien met rode wol omwoelde aanhangsels waarvan boveneinden voorzien van bosjes rode wol of witte, zwarte of bruine veren en twee lange rode katoenen linten.
