Kooijman)<BR> Shield from south-eastern Queensland or north-eastern New South Wales<BR> <BR> Schild uit één stuk hout gemaakt, met aan de achterzijde een handvat ontstaan door uitsnijding binnen het eigenlijke schild. De voorzijde is voorzien van een patroon in rood, wit en zwart. De achterzijde heeft een ornamentatie van ingegroefde gebogen lijnen. Er zijn ook sporen van ?zwarte hars.<BR> <BR> Oorspronkelijke herkomstopgave: Australië. Nadere localisering aan de hand van no. 885-5 en 885-6. Vgl. ook de opgegeven literatuur.<BR> <BR> Softwood shield from north-eastern New South Wales, acquired by the museum in 1882. A handgrip has been carved into the back. The back surface is ornamented by two arcs of burnt incisions, above and below the handle. These were probably applied with hot wire. The shield's surface is coated with black resin.
