In de achterkant is een handgreep uitgespaard. Boven en onder de greep talloze putjes, die samen twee, diametraal tegenover elkaar geplaatste, hoefijzervormige patronen vormen. De voorzijde is met een zwarte harssoort ingesmeerd.<BR> <BR> Softwood shield from north-eastern New South Wales, acquired by the museum in 1882. A handgrip has been carved into the back. The back surface is ornamented by two arcs of burnt incisions, above and below the handle. These were probably applied with hot wire. The shield's surface is coated with black resin.
