Fabrics could have different names, depending on the material, the use, the gender of the wearer, as well as in which company the textiles were discussed. Men wore woven cloths as under garments covered by a long fibre skirt; women wore only fibre skirts. Textiles were also objects of value and served as a means of exchange. <Br> Nowadays the population of the main island of Yap no longer does any weaving. Traditional textiles - only worn when dances are performed - are mainly imported from of the surrounding atolls. The local everyday attire is now western.
