Acht jaar nadat de Landsregering Suriname bracht hun eigen 'Suriname' tentoonstelling naar het Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen, heeft het Tropenmuseum hun eigen versie georganiseerd. Werner Joseph, een van de organisators van de 1953 tentoonstelling, werkt ook mee. Hij was verantwoordelijk voor het verzamelen van objecten in Suriname en heeft veel foto's gemaakt die uiteindelijk gebruikt werden. Werner Joseph, one of the organizers of the 1953 exhibition, also worked on this one, collecting many of the objects used in this exhibition for the Tropenmuseum. He also took many of the photographs ultimately used in the exposition. Though it was organized in cooperation with the government of Suriname, the Tropenmuseum was ultimately responsible for the organization and selection of the objects.
