List of 139 ethnographical objects collected by Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje (1857-1936) during his voyage to Mecca in 1884-1885. According to this MS, the objects were given in permanent loan to 's Rijks Ethnographisch Museum, nowadays Museum Volkenkunde, Leiden, on 11 March 1897. Signed J.D.E. Schmeltz. Johann Dietrich Eduard Schmeltz (1839-1909) was director of the Museum from 1896 to 1909. In the list, references are given to Snouck Hurgronjes Bilder-Atlas, a supplement volume to his work Mekka (Haag: Martinus Nijhoff, 1888-1889). A description of the loan collection is given by Snouck Hurgronje in Internationales Archiv für Ethnographie I (1888). The loan was transformed into a gift in 1919.
