Cornelis Evertsen the Youngest (1642–1706) came from a true seafaring family. Like him, his father and uncle were both lieutenant-admirals. All three served the Admiralty of Zeeland, an important part of the Dutch navy. Evertsen was also a fervent supporter of the House of Orange, as his sash reveals.
