Medal of honour for Michiel de Ruyter
In 1657 Admiral de Ruyter was awarded a medal of honour by the Admiralty of Amsterdam, the headquarters of the Dutch navy, following his capture of two French privateers off the coast of Corsica. On the front is the
lion of Holland, on the back the arms of the Admiralty, a lion behind a fence gripping two anchors. Both medal and chain are made of gold.
